SharePoint 2010 – How to hide the View All Site Content Link from the Browser
Recently a SharePoint student asked me how to remove the view all site content link in the quick launch bar with with the standard standard Security Settings in Microsoft SharePoint 2010. This is one approach to solving this problem. This is done through the browser however I do create a custom security group to do it.
(Note: This will not work on a Site or Site Collection with the Publishing feature activated, it only works for non-publishing site(s). Even if you deactivate the Publishing Feature, the groups will remain until you remove their permissions entirely.)
Observe-link-on-home-page.
I am logged in as a Site Collection Administrator and I see the View All Site Content Link at the bottom of the quick launch bar as expected.
Create-Custom-Permission-Level
CLICK SITE ACTIONS>SITE PERMISSIONS

CLICK THE READ PERMISSION LEVEL LINK

SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE AND CLICK THE BUTTON: COPY PERMISSION LEVEL
Since the Read permission level is very close to what I want to achieve, I'll start here and adjust it in a custom permission level.
Fill-Out-Form-Adjust-Permissions
FILL OUT THE FORM AND UN-CHECK THE VIEW APPLICATION PAGES PERMISSION, THEN CLICK THE CREATE BUTTON (CREATE BUTTON NOT SHOWN)
Observe-The-New-Permission-Level
Here I can see that I have successfully added my new permission level. Now I need to test it.
Assign-Custom-Permission-Level-To-User
SITE ACTIONS>SITE PERMISSIONS
Grant-Permissions
CLICK ON GRANT PERMISSIONS
Add-A-User-Assign-Permissions
ADD STUDENT25 TO THE USERS/GROUPS AND SELECT THE NEWLY CREATED PERMISSION LEVEL TO ASSIGN IT TO THEM, THEN CLICK OK.
Go-To-Home-Page
USE THE TRUSTY NAVIGATE UP CONTROL AND GET BACK TO THE HOME PAGE, I WANT TO MAKE SURE I TEST IT ON A NON-APPLICATION PAGE
Sign-In-As-Student25
USE THE DROP DOWN MENU IN THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE AND CHOOSE SIGN IN AS A DIFFERENT USER
Fill-Out-Log-In-Dialog
FILL OUT THE SECURITY LOG IN SCREEN WITH STUDENT25'S CREDENTIALS
Verify-No-All-Site-Content
VERIFY THAT ALL SITE CONTENT IS NO LONGER VISIBLE IN THE QUICK LAUNCH, THEN CLICK ON SITE ACTIONS AND NOTHING APPEARS.
It's important to test it in order to verify that the change didn't have any unanticipated effects, but this is how I accomplished the objective.
